Earthquake Strikes Haiti
CARE is deploying additional emergency team members to the devastated city of Port-au-Prince in Haiti, where the worst earthquake in 200 years destroyed houses and left thousands homeless. While the exact death toll from the 7.0-magnitude quake is not yet known, it is expected to be catastrophic.
"It is just morning here now," describes CARE's Country Director in Haiti Sophie Perez on January 13, less than a day after the quake. "I can hear helicopters working on the search and rescue. The immediate need is to rescue people trapped in the rubble, then to get people food and water. We're particularly worried about the children, because so many schools seem to have collapsed. Children were still in school in the afternoon when the earthquake hit, so there are many children trapped. It's horrifying."
CARE is rushing aid to Haiti right now.

Outdoor Fireplace by Haugen/Zohar Architects
Location: Skjærmveien Barnehage, Trondheim
Combine an enclosed space for fire, storytelling and playing.
Given a very limited budget, reusing leftover materials (from a nearby construction site) was a starting point that led the design to be based on short wooden pieces. Inspired by the Norwegi an turf huts and old log construction, a 5,2x4,5 meters wooden construction was built and mounted on a lighted and brushed concrete base. The structure is made of 80-layered
circles. The circles have varied radiuses and relative centre point in relation to each other. Every circle is made out of 28 pieces of naturally impregnated core of pine that are placed with varied spaces to assure chimney effect and natural light. Oak separators differentiate vertically between the pine pieces to assure airflow allowing easy drying of the pine pieces. A double curved sliding door was designed for locking the structure.
Magnetism
If I can locate a super strong magnet, some old nails and string, I would definitely try to recreate this at home,
Instant Gratification
A community project celebrating instant film and the polaroid 600 series. They had a special, one night only, gallery exhibition featuring 200 professional and amateur photographers from around the world, last Saturday.
And I believe Lady Ga Ga is now Polaroid's Creative Director.
350 Points Towards Infinity
I love Today and Tomorrow. They always find the most wonderful installations and exhibitions. I wish I could get over to Zurich to see this piece. It's in the Migros Museum in Zürich until February 21st.
Tatiana Trouvé is known for her room constructions, architectonic interventions, and snake-like metal sculptural objects that are semmingly solidified in movement, as if frozen.
This particular installation has magnets hidden in the floor pulling on Plum-bob's (great name, reminds me of Mark Harnell, and the time I spent working in plant and tool hire shop during University summer vacations).
Letterheady

I'm look forward to watching this new blog grow. Letterheady is an online homage to offline correspondence; specifically letters. Curated by Shaun Usher, who also brings us Letters of Note - Correspondence desrving of a wider audience.
Light Touch
An interactive projector that instantly transforms any flat surface into a touch screen. I hope it works well in lighting conditions exemplified by this promo shot.
